{"id":917,"date":"2016-05-12T13:20:53","date_gmt":"2016-05-12T13:20:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/perspektivi.info\/?p=917"},"modified":"2016-05-12T13:20:53","modified_gmt":"2016-05-12T13:20:53","slug":"best-universities-in-europe-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/perspektivi.info\/?p=917","title":{"rendered":"Best universities in Europe 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-438 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/perspektivi.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/11111-1-e1457955701717-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"11111\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/perspektivi.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/11111-1-e1457955701717-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/perspektivi.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/11111-1-e1457955701717.jpg 438w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The UK has topped a ranking of the 200 best universities in Europe, taking nearly a quarter of places (46).<\/p>\n<p>The universities of Oxford and Cambridge and Imperial College London achieved the highest scores of all higher education institutions in the continent, based on the data and methodology used to compile the <em>Times Higher Education<\/em> World University Rankings 2015-2016.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top five is filled by Switzerland\u2019s ETH Zurich \u2013 Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and the UK\u2019s University College London (UCL).<\/p>\n<p>Institutions were measured on their teaching environment, research environment, citations (research influence), industry income and international outlook.<\/p>\n<p>Germany is the second most-represented nation in the list of the top universities in Europe, with 36 institutions, almost a third of which (11) are in the top 50. The top university in Germany is LMU Munich in 10<sup>th<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n<p>While Italy boasts 19 universities, its top-ranked institution \u2013 Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa \u2013 only just makes the top 50.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in Europe, Scandinavian countries perform well, with Sweden and Finland punching above their weight relative to their population size with 11 and six institutions respectively. Sweden\u2019s top university \u2013 Karolinska Institute \u2013 is in ninth place while Finland\u2019s University of Helsinki makes the top 30 (joint 28).<\/p>\n<p>Other strong performers relative to population size include Denmark (six universities \u2013 led by the University of Copenhagen at 33<sup>rd<\/sup>), the Republic of Ireland (six \u2013 led by Trinity College Dublin at 78<sup>th<\/sup>) and Switzerland (nine).<\/p>\n<p>The east and south of Europe however generally score poorly in the ranking. Russia underperforms in the table, with just five institutions in the top 200 and one in the top 100 (Lomonosov Moscow State University at 79<sup>th<\/sup>) making it the lowest-ranked country relative to its population and GDP, although it ranks highly relative to its GDP per capita. Meanwhile Spain has only five universities, topped by Autonomous University of Barcelona at 70<sup>th<\/sup>, and is the second-lowest country when ranked in relation to its GDP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK has topped a ranking of the 200 best universities in Europe, taking nearly a quarter of places (46).
